The Konkan region in Maharashtra and Goa is home to ancient rock carvings known as petroglyphs. These carvings have been found in various locations such as Kasheli, Rundhye Tali, Devache Gothane, Barsu, Devi Hasol, Jambharun, Kudopi, Ukshi in Maharashtra, and Pansaymol in Goa. Estimated to be 12,000 years old, these petroglyphs provide valuable insights into the early history of the region. The majority of the images were discovered in the Ratnagiri and Rajapur areas, atop hillocks that had remained unnoticed for thousands of years. The recent discovery of 1,000 more carvings is expected to shed further light on the ancient cultures that once thrived in the Konkan region.
